摘要

The paper intends to study the communicative approach to the teaching of English reading andrnattempts to solve the problem of “dumb” and “deaf” way of language learning. Following therntheories of language acquisition, discourse analysis and principles on learner autonomy, the authorrnfirstly clarifies the necessity and effectiveness of adopting the communicative approach in thernteaching of reading, then carries out a reform of activities in reading class. After a two-semesterrncontrastive study, the advantages of communicative approach can be clearly seen.rnIn conclusion, the communicative approach may not only improve students’ overall ability inrnthe use of language but also develop students’ learning autonomy and elicit their interest in Englishrnlearning. Therefore, communicative approach might become the tendency for the teaching ofrnCollege English.
