This paper relates the historical development and use of single strand unbonded post-tensioningtendons in parking structures constructed in deicingsalt regions in North America since the early 1960's. These parking structures were constructed in southeast Canada and the northeastern and midwestern United States using wire and strand tendons as the primary flexural reinforcing and were exposed to deicing salts during the winter. Parking structures exposed to ocean salts have not been reviewed. Most of the following discussion, however, will also apply to them.
