Clays have been synthesized and several types of molecules have been intercalated into them ot enhance their ionic conductiveiy. The clay has the molecular formula of LI-taeniolite, Li(Mg_2Li) SI_4O_10F_2, and the inserted molecules include PEO and tow varieties of sulfone, tetramethylene sulfone and ethylmethyl sulfonel These have been made in the interest ofelectrolytes in lithium secondary batteries in order to produce a tuly solid state cell. The products have bee nthoroughly characterized by x-ray diffraction to verify the uptake ofthe molectules into the layers, thermal analysis to observe the stabilization of the intercalated molecules, along with impedance measurements ot test their conductivity.
