Master control systems of the 5th generation are characterized by a change in paradigm in manufacturing technology. This change in paradigm is adapted automation, decentralized or human-centered. The necessary application flexibility and the possiblity of forming variants pequire a high reusability of master control software, as well as a systematic development process. This paper shows as an example the software techniques which have been selected to develop a decentralized structured object-oriented master control system. A comparison is made with function-oriented master control systems.
