Crack opening displacements were examined experimentally at room temperature for both plate and pipe specimencontaining a surface crack. Application of crack opening displacement solutions fi'om plate specimens, as proposed bythe present authors, to pipe specimens were investigated. Crack opening displacement after penetration could besatisfactorily determined regardless of a type of load using the COD solutions proposed by the authors.
