The proper fusion processing of track data would become complicated if cross-correlation of the estimation errors of a local track and a fusion track for the same target exists. If so, then designing a filter that combines track data should take that cross-correlation into account. A number of suitable tracklet methods exist. This paper compares trackers using a tracklets-from-tracks approach to trackers using a tracklets-from-measurements approach, and each of these approaches are compared to three other global trackers, by root-mean-square error and normalized Mahalanobis distance metrics. Simulation results are presented showing that fusion trackers using non-synchronized tracklets appear to perform better than fusion trackers using synchronized tracklets.
