One of the governing parameters when desining bridges to cross waters with ship traffic is the design against ship collision. Both the Great Belt, East Bridge, and the Oresund Link bridge cross international navigation routes with subsequent heavy ship traffic which shall be accounted for in the design. The present paper describes two fo the structural analyses carried out in connection with the above mentioned projects, ship collision to the superstructure (deckhouse collision) on the Great Belt, East Bridge, and ship collision to the pylons on the high bridge of the Oresund Link. Ship collision was in both cases governing for parts of the design.
