Application of Kansei Engineering and Concurrent Engineering to a New Cosmetic Product

Kansei Engineering is a powerful ergonomic technology regarding implementation of the customer's feeling (kansei) on a coming product. In this paper, we apply the kansei engineering with the concurrent engineering to develop a new cosmetic product (shampoo and treatment). At the beginning of this research, we surveyed hair care problems which ladies have daily concerning several hair length and hair styles and we analyzed these data by Quantification Theory Type Ⅱ. Then, we obtained ladies' hair complaint positioning which led to the new concept of product. We started to organize a new product project team consisting of the representatives of all divisions of Milbon Corporation according to the concurrent engineering and proceeded the kansei engineering procedure. The new shampoo and treatment named "Deesesse's" were successful in good selling.
