The hybrid active/passive control results described here illustrate how constrained layer damping (CLD) can help asimple feedback controller topology produce reductions in radiated sound power that are close to those of a muchmore complicated controller topology. In this simple experiment, a single input/single output controller, with CLDon the panel, reduced the sound power transmitted through a clamped panel by 8.8 dB integrated from 50 to 800 Hz.In comparison, a more complicated controller that required fifteen accelerometers whose outputs were processed tocompute radiation mode responses, reduced the sound power by 9.2 dB.
