AN EFFECTIVE VE APPROACH AT DEVELOPMENT AND DESIGN STAGES FORAUTOMOTIVE PARTS MANUFACTURERS

This paper relates to automotive parts. The paper proposes an effective approach of VE to be employedin the development and design stages (hereafter called development VE) through joint efforts with thecustomer to achieve the stringent production cost target, and clarifies the effectiveness of the approach.The paper identifies the problems of the conventional development VE followed by many automotiveparts makers and introduces a method to solve the problems. This useful method is actually incorporatedinto the steps of job plan of development VE to improve efficiency of VE activity. With the new method,a rough system and construction plan is established to perform critical basic functions and then carriedout by additional steps such as function definition, function diagramming, function evaluation and ideageneration. The new steps are incorporated in the process of development VE, and more efficient resultsare obtained in a shorter time period than with the conventional development VE.
