School Operating System for Freescale HCS08 Microcontrollers RTMON2

This article deals with new version of educational operating system, called RTMON2, which was developed at our institute. It is intended mainly as a teaching aid for lessons of microcontroller programming but can also be used in various student projects. It aims to enable the students to understand the basic concepts of writing applications which use operating systems. It offers an easy way to write applications with several concurrently running tasks on 8-bit microcontroller. The second version of the system is based on the experience obtained when using the previous version of RTMON in lessons and improves the usability of the system, mainly by more efficient usage of RAM memory, which was not used efficiently in the older version. RTM0N2 is currently ported to GB60, QE128 and QG4 derivatives from the Freescale HCS08 microcontroller family and also to Atmel AVR ATMega8 microcontroller.
