The structural behavior of steel members under biaxial bending and torsion is insofar from special kind that most systems for the torsional loading are statically indefinite. Plastic redistribution possibilities and usually big load-carrying capacity reserves in relation to a purely elastic calculation arise from it. In a recently finished research project the structural behavior of I- and U-girders under biaxial bending and torsion was examined experimentally and theoretically in detail. Here the most important realizations about the structural behavior and the load-carrying capacity are presented. By the application of the gained conclusions to the practical design the structural members can be dimensioned clearly more economical.
