Colloid-facilitated migration of plutonium inrnfractured rock has been implicated in both fieldrnand laboratory studies. Other reactivernradionuclides may also experience enhancedrnmobility due to groundwater colloids. Modelrnprediction of this process is necessary forrnassessment of contaminant boundaries in systemsrnfor which radionuclides are already in therngroundwater and for performance assessment ofrnpotential repositories for radioactive waste.rnTherefore, a reactive transport model is developedrnand parameterized using results from controlledrnlaboratory fracture column experiments.rnSilica, montmorillonite and clinoptilolite colloidsrnare used in the experiments along with plutoniumrnand Tritium.. The goal of the numerical model isrnto identify and parameterize the physical andrnchemical processes that affect the colloidfacilitatedrntransport of plutonium in the fractures.rnThe parameters used in this model are similar inrnform to those that might be used in a field-scalerntransport model.
