This study examines gender wage differentials in union and non-union academic settings; includingrnexamining the returns of productivity on earnings in both academic settings. Data was collected byrnsurveying academics in business in public and private universities in Minnesota and Wisconsin; responsernrate was 38 percent; n=205. The significant findings were that variance in union salaries was morerndifficult to predict than in non-union salaries, union membership or employment in unionized settingrndoes not remove the gender wage differential, and there was no return to refereed journal publication inrnthe union sub-sample.
