Clusters - which we define as atomic aggregates of approx 10~1 to approx 10~4 atoms - are unique not only because of effects due to reduced volume ("size-effects") but as well because of their extraordinarily large specific surface. Since decades physicists were fascinated from the search for size effects, while chemists ofcused upon the surface/interface due to their catalytic activity. Systematic physical research on cluster surfaces as alternative objects of surface science (Fig.1) appears to be a future task. Some attempts in this direction will be presented in the following.
