The purification of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) derived from Jatropha curcas L. seed oil has been studied. Different purification conditions on the purity of PUFAs were discussed,such as the sorts of solvent, the mass ratio of fatty acid Ⅰ-urea-methanol, inclusion temprature and cooling method. Methanol is a suitable solvent used in concentration process compared with other two solvents.With the increasing of fatty acid I-urea mass ratio from 1:1 to 1:2.5, the purity of PUFAs was also increased from 69% to 100%. However, the yield of fatty acid II was reduced from 38.20% to 4.68%. It was found that with the increaseing amount of methanol, the yield of PUFAs was increased significantly, but the purity was not affected greatly. Under crystallization temperture of -20, high yield of PUFAs ℃ (23.78%)was obtained with good purity(94.52%). It was also found that the yield of PUFAs and fatty acid II could be promoted using slowly cooling method. The yield of PUFAs and fatty acid II was higher about 10% and 4%, respectively, than rapidly cooling method.
