摘要

The electron probe X-ray micro-analyzer has been adapted to study biological tissue sections from both experimental animal and human pathologic specimens. Tissue preparation methods have been utilized so that the electron probe analysis is non-destructive. Elemental concentration distribution at the cubic micron level of tissue with a sensitivity of 0.5×10~(-16)gm has been achieved. The calcium distribution with the calcification zone of the epiphyseal plates of young growing rats and guinea pigs has been measured. Copper has been identified and its concentration measured within Descemet's membrane of the cornea from eyes of patients with Wilson's disease. Iron distribution gradients within the epithelium of the guinea pig intestine have been obtained.
