MAPPING FAULT SLIP IN CENTRAL CALIFORNIA USING SATELLITE, AIRBORNE INSAR AND GPS

The central San Andreas fault is accommodatingrnrelative motion between the Sierra Nevada-Great Valleyrnblock and the Pacific plate in central California. It isrncreeping along the ~60 km long central segment whilernchanging to locking towards the northwest andrnsoutheast. Characterizing its creeping nature and on andrnoff-fault deformation are crucial for improvedrnearthquake hazard assessment in the region. We use LbandrnALOS PALSAR, NASA airborne UAVSAR datarnand geodetic measurements to map the fault sliprnvariation. Our results show a distinct change in shallowrnfault creep and fault slip at depth from the centralrncreeping to the transitional segment. Our workrndemonstrates that airborne UAVSAR provides usefulrnconstraints on shallow creep and near fault deformation.rnContinuing observations would be essential in capturingrntime-varying faulting behaviours and their implicationrntowards present and future earthquake activities.
