Fungal and bacterial infections of the human skin seen widely in clinical expression and duration, are becoming serious. A good clinical and therapeutical knowledge in Chinease traditional medicine may allow of dispose certain specific biosubstances in the s cope of therapeutic chemistry. The initial purpose of this research was to study the pharmacological activities of the Chinese medicinal plants and their active cibsutituents. In this part, we concentrated in examining, in vitro, the antiseptic activity of the two flavonic compounds: baicalein and baicalin, upon the 17 pathogenic fungal and 16 opportunist bacterial species of the human different organs (skin, mucous membrane, nail, foot and axilla), these biosubstances knwon principally as their a nti-allergic and anti-inflammatory functions were isolated from a typical Chinese medicinal plant: Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, the two flavones are closely similar in structure, just different in the position 7 of flavonic skeleton, for the baicalein, this is hydroxyl; and for the baicalin, this is glucuronic acid (Figure).
