UNIQUE QUALITIES OF HISTORIANS’ INFORMATIONSEEKING BEHAVIOR IN HISTORICAL RESEARCH

This paper presents a study that took an interdisciplinaryrnapproach to investigating historians’ information-seekingrnbehavior (ISB) during their historical research. The authorrnreviewed the literature of library and information science,rnarchival science, and history to compare their findings onrnhistorians’ ISB to a model of social scientists’ ISBrndeveloped by Lokman I. Meho and Helen R. Tibbo. Thernresults show that the differences between the two groups’rnISBs are caused by certain unique qualities of historicalrnresearch, in particular, historians’ frequent use of archivalrnmaterials and institutions. This paper discusses thernimplications for archival institutions.
