Striving for Interoperability: Synthetic Environment Core (SECore)

Modelling and Simulation (M&S) technology has become a key military transformation enabler within the Canadian Department of National Defence (DND) and the Canadian Forces (CF). Many M&S applications are undertaken on a standalone basis to address specific issues; however, other applications require a much greater level of composition. Thus, there is a corporate requirement to strive for interoperability.rnS'ECore is a DND initiative designed to enhance interoperability across all M&S application domains by providing a reference baseline of common and crosscutting standards; simulation development processes; collective expertise and experience; and infrastructure in order to improve the efficiency with which simulations are developed and the quality of the simulations.rnThe development of S'ECore is being coordinated by the DND Synthetic Environment Coordination Office (SECO) with input from the Synthetic Environment Working Group (SEWG), which is a working level group open to all M&S practitioners. The paper describes the development of SECore, implementation issues, and details of its high priority objectives.
