Medicinal fungi have been demonstrated to possess several biological properties, such as immunoregulation, anti-cancer, antioxidant and antiinflammation properties. Polysaccharopeptide and its derivatives have been shown to be the main bioactive components. Two kinds of fractions were isolated from the polysaccharide of Trametes versicolor (LH1), and were named as TVEP-1 and TVEP-2, respectively. The fraction was used by DEAE-Sepharose. Their chemical structures were analyzed with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR). The average molecular weights of TVEP-1 and TVEP-2 were approximately 9. 7 and 9. 8 KDa, respectively. Biological activity was tested on human periphenal blood mononuclear cells ( hPBMC). In vitro study indicates TVEP-1 and TVEP-2 caused a significant stimulation of hPBMC cell proliferation. There was no cytotoxicity of hPBMC, however. These results indicated that TVEP-1 and TVEP-2 may merit further examination as potential immunostimulants.
