In this work St14 steel sheets were cold roll bonded with Al99.5 at different brushing conditions to get information about the influence of surface treatment at the bonding strength. First the effect of the main brushing parameter on surface roughness and structure development were determined. As the most important parameters, the rotation speed, the pressing force and the movement speed were chosen. Immediately after scratch brushing roll bonding trials were performed to investigate the effect of the brushing conditions on the bond strength of the clad. Finally the bonding strength was measured by angle peeling test and plotted against the roughness ratio.
