Following seven years of development, an innovative thermolysis (low temperature pyrolysis) waste treatmentrntechnology has now achieved industrial status, and the first commercial plant treating 30 000 t/y of MSW is underrnconstruction in France. Conceived specifically for waste treatment and for process simplicity, this is a continuousrnprocess characterized by batch introduction of waste into the kiln, and optimized materials recovery with energyrnrecovered as electricity.rnThe design minimizes waste handling and manipulation through the use of static, fixed-bed heating of thernwaste and requires almost no waste pre-treatment. Post-treatment recovery of metals and inert materials reducesrnultimate wastes to a minimum.rnThe process simplicity makes possible the treatment of a wide variety of waste streams, including industrialrnwastes such as tires, plastics and automobile shredding residues.
