In the everlasting search for PM components with improved mechanical properties High Velocity Compaction, HVC, is one existing alternative. Maintaining a low production cost, a significant increase in density, and thus properties, can be reached. With HVC, the density increase is reached using a very high rammer speed in the pressing operation. To reach an even higher density, SKF has worked extensively to develop recompaction with HVC for industrial use. In our process, the powder is compacted using traditional presses, pre-sintered to burn off the lubricant, recompacted using HVC and finally sintered traditionally. Using this process, we have produced components with a density of 7,7 g/cm~3. According to other investigations, even higher density levels can be reached. SKF is to date one of the very few PM producers using HVC. In this paper, examples of applications are presented, showing the properties that have been reached. Results of our research on the different process steps are also presented.
