During the expedition RV "Academic Fedorov" passed big root over the Central Arctic in order to find appropriate floe for the drifting station North Pole-35 in September, 2007. Several stations were organized on the drifting ice in the Central Arctic to study sea ice properties. Multi-year ice was deformed and covered by numerous melt ponds. Deformed ice was unacceptable for the organizing of the drifting station because of the transportation problems over the ice. On the stations level ice thickness varied from 1 m to 3 m, and the thickness of rafted ice was measured up to 6 m. Measurements of the temperature and the salinity of melt ponds water with sensors SBE-39 and YSI-6920 shown super cooling of the water.
