According to the conventional polyelectrolyte model, the macromolecule carrying ionizable groups will disperse individually in dilute solutions of polar solvents as a stretched chain due to the electrosatic repulsion. In early 90s, however, some abnormal phenomena have been reported. For polystyrene with only one change at the one end of a molecule, the reduced viscosity in DMF increases as the polymer content decreases, showing the intramolecular charge repulsion.
