Five Years of Operation and Maintenance Experience using Oxygen-Carbon Injection Technologies at SDI - Columbia City, Indiana

Since the startup of the 120t, 120 MVA AC electric arc furnaces at SDI-Columbia City in May 2002, three different oxygen injection technologies have been utilized. EAF operating practices and results using EXO, the Praxair CoJet~R system, and PTI JetBOX sidewall injector installations will be presented. Operational, maintenance, refractory and emissions issues and their solutions will be discussed. Injector design improvements and sidewall lime/dololime injection will be examined with respect to future EAF expansion plans.
