Approximate analysis of real-time database systems

During the past few years, several studies have been made on thenperformance of real-time database systems with respect to the number ofntransactions that miss their deadlines. These studies have used eithernsimulation models or database testbeds as their performance evaluationntools. We present a preliminary analytical performance study ofnreal-time transaction processing. Using a series of approximations, wenderive simple closed-form solutions to reduced real-time databasenmodels. Although quantitatively approximate, the solutions accuratelyncapture system sensitivity to workload parameters and indicatenconditions under which performance bounds are achieved
