Multiple Model Adaptive Control (MMAC)

Multiple-Model Adaptive Control (MMAC) is shown to be an effective strategy for controlling nonlinear chemical processes. A brief review of past work is presented, hihglighting the major areas where MMAC has been applied. The structure of the MMAC strategy is shown, including comments on implementation issues. Four basic examples, including a non-linear CSTR with output multiplicities, are presented to discuss decisions and problems faced when designing an MMAC controller. In all cases the MMAC controller provides better performance than a fixed-parameter controller. Directions for tuture research are discussed.
