A 3.1" high-resolution (96 PPI) active-matrix electronic ink display was fabricated on a thin steel foil substrate. The 240 x 160 pixel display measures only 0.3 mm in total thickness and weighs 3.1 grams. The backplane comprises a-Si thin film transistor array fabricated using a three-mask process. The display exhibits an ink-on-paper appearance and paper-like form.
