Wukesong Culture and Sports Center Indoor Stadium is the main basketball stadium of 2008 Beijing OlympicrnGames. The height of the stadium is about 35.6 m, and the building area is about 60,000 m2. Grid span of thernstructure is 120 m. The main support structure system of the stadium is dual system (RC frames with shearrnwalls). The interior columns and beams support the spectator stand structure. Sixteen (16) side columns and fourrn(4) corner columns are the main support members of the roof structure. The spacing of the side columns is 24 m.rnThe roof structure of the stadium is steel trusses. The total span is 122.3 m. The trusses are designed as two-wayrnorthogonal system. The height of the trusses is designed in consideration of the requirements for force transfer. Inrnaccordance with the architecture layout and requirement of the clear height for match, the maximum height ofrnthe trusses is 9.3 m at the center of the structure. The height of the side trusses of the roof structure is 6.3 m. Thernspacing of each main truss is 12 m supported by side brackets. The side brackets are supported by RC columnsrnwith spacing of 24 m so that the loads of the main trusses could be transferred to the columns through thernbrackets.rnThe height is changed from 6.3m to 9.3m. The trusses are supported by 20 RC columns around the stadium. Thernsupports between the trusses and corner columns are fixed-hinged supports, and the other 16 supports are one-wayrnsliding supports with spring resistances on which the trusses are fixed out of the truss plane but can slide in therntruss plane. Horizontal forces transferred to the columns can be controlled because of the work of the supports. Therntrusses and columns meet the demand of ultimate limit state and serviceability limit state under vertical loadrncombinations, frequent seismic load combinations and design seismic load combinations.
