Large scale solar thermal electricity generation is technically feasible and will soon becomerneconomically competitive, if more efforts for its introduction are made. In this paper the state of the artrnof decentral and especially central large scale solar energy technology, especially Dish StirlingrnSystems, Solar Updraft Towers, Solar Trough Collectors, and Central Receiver Systems withrnheliostats will be presented, emphasizing the role of the structural engineer in this important field.
