FABRICATION TECHNIQUE AND QUALITY CONTROL OF STEEL TUBULAR SPACE STRUCTURE

Steel tubular structures are widely used in modern structures, especially in long-span spatial structures, for itsrnadvantages—fine section properties, high load-bearing capacity, grand, brief and fluent configuration, simplernassembly and fabrication, and so forth. Within such type of structures, the configurations vary from linear torncurved shapes, and intersection joints directly by welding are usually employed to fit the various types ofrnconnection profiles. For the reason of welding, the fabrication of the tubular structures becomes the crucial partrnof the entire construction process. Based on a practical project of tubular structure, this paper discusses severalrnaspects of tubular structure fabricating technical process, including calculation of rising of the arch, preparationrnof the members, curve confection of the up and bottom chords, sectional assembly of the entire structure,rnreadjusting and pre-fabrication, onsite assembly of each component, fabrication of the joints and the welding ofrnthe intersection joints, as well as the quality control of the welding process. The introduction of the fabricationrnmethods and process of this tubular structure could provide some useful experiences for the future research andrndesign.
