Problem and its Significance. The construction or rehabilitation of buildings to make them withstand futurernearthquakes, is requiring the evaluation of the following problems:rna) the seismic energy transfer from the foundation ground to the building;rnb) the control, limiting and damping of the seismic movement transferred to the building;rnc) the assessment of the mechanical device contribution to isolate, control, limit and damp the buildingrnseismic movements.rnProposed Approach. In order to solve the above mentioned problems, the paper presents the mathematicalrnevaluation of the building dynamic behavior, considering the seismic action in the form of inertia forces, in casernof rigid buildings, and of elastic and damping forces, in case of flexible buildings, also taking into considerationrnthe limited duration of an earthquake.rnThe contents of the paper is a proposal to evaluate the seismic energy transfer from the foundation ground to thernbuilding throughout the seismic event duration, function of the ratio between the building dynamicrncharacteristics and the seismic movement kinetic characteristics.rnResults and Application. The experimental results obtained by employing SERB mechanical devices inrnaccomplishing the transfer, the control, the limiting and the damping of the seismic movement in case of arnspatial building.rnFor a better relevance, the paper presents the results of strengthening a 6 storey reinforced concrete framernbuilding by means of SERB mechanical devices. The building strengthening employing SERB mechanicalrndevices developed in Galatzi City – Romania.
