Abstract: This paper presents preliminary results from an investigation of edge detection with a principal components analysis. In this way the parameters of an edge detector can be derived from data about edges in images. Our preliminary investigations attempt two approaches to deriving an edge detector from the analysis, neither of which is totally successful. !12
