It is increasingly desirable to be able to support real-timeinteractive applications such as gaming, tele-immersion,and search-and-rescue operations within a mobile ad hocenvironment. Interactive applications are often supportedby Publish-Subscribe middleware. To address this need,our paper describes the Distributed Weighted multi-CoreMulticast Protocol (DWCMP). DWCMP is designed tosupport interactive applications that run within a mobilead hoc network by dynamically assigning, advertising andwhen necessary migrating core communication nodes forinterest management support. DWCMP has a highly flexibleset of protocol parameters that can quickly be tunedto both virtual application requirements and the physicalmobility aspects of the system. We present an analyticalmodel that allows the protocol to be tuned for high performance,and an extensive set of performance evaluationstudies. Our results indicate that DWCMP can support thereal-time communication requirements of many types of interactiveapplications within a mobile ad hoc environment.
