The sensor networks are paid attention to according to theadvance of the technologies on low electric power and highperformance CPU radio communication. In order toconstruct an easy to deploy and cost effective sensornetworks, the ad hoc network technology is indispensable.In a real world sensor network, the high density distributionof sensors is one of the major issues to be considered. Forexample, it is possible that there are hundreds of sensors inthe radio propagation area of a certain sensor. Such asensor network can be built by applying a high density adhoc network technologies. This paper proposes a procedureto select landmark nodes which work as relaying nodes forrouting control messages and data packets. In our approach,nodes exchange Hello messages containing neighborinformation periodically, nodes find their neighbors andtwo hop neighbors, and selected landmark nodes againselect landmark nodes around them in turn, which isrepeated until landmark nodes are selected throughout anetwork. This paper describes the detailed procedure andthe results of selecting landmark nodes. The simulationresults show that only a part of nodes are used as landmarknodes in a high density network environment.
