The event paradigm and publish/subscribe systems allowclients to asynchronously receive information that matchestheir interests. The requirements of mobile computingpresent new challenges pertaining to event delivery thatneed to be solved. In this paper, we formally examine severalstate transfer protocols for different pub/sub topologies.The new results of this paper are the cost functions forboth subscriber and publisher mobility, and investigationand formulation of completeness of subscriptions and advertisements.The results show that rendezvous points aregood for pub/sub mobility, handovers in incomplete topologiesare more costly than in complete, and the brokers involvedwith mobility have no way of detecting completenessbased on local information alone.
