This paper analyzes the error performance of the opticalcode-division multiple access systems utilizing onedimensionaland multidimensional PPM codes. Themultiple access interference is characterized by thecontinuous probability density functions, thus allowingthe investigation of the maximum likelihood performanceof actual asynchronous O-CDMA systems employing onoffkeying (OOK) and on-off orthogonal (OOO)signaling. Two types of detectors are examined:conventional (SUM detector) and maximum likelihood(ML detector), with the performance results compared.
