Abstract: Diffractive optical encoders have quickly establishedthemselves in the marketplace because of their smallseize, high accuracy and relaxed alignment tolerances,but current products are still composed of carefullypackages, discrete optical and electro-opticalcomponents. MicroE and Digital Optics Corporation havebeen working together on the next generation of theseencoders, which replaces all discrete and refractiveelements with DOE's and more completely integrates therequisite optical and electro-optical components. Inthis paper we describe a monolithicsource/optics/detector encoder module we have designedand prototyped for a satellite application under a NASAPhase I SBIR contract. !1
