In PMSM identification of rotor position is very essential to control speed of the motor. Use of encoder and resolver is conventional method to detect speed and rotor position but it increases the price, weight and degrades the reliability of the system. Therefore, many algorithms have been established which is used for the estimation of rotor position and speed. This paper addresses sensor less speed control of PMSM with bemf based model reference adaptive control (MRAC) algorithm. MATLAB/Simulink software is used to simulate and analyze this control algorithm. The results demonstrate the ability of MRAC controller performance to trace the actual speed and the rotor position of the PMSM.
