A Dual-Polarized Planar Ultra-wideband Modular Antenna (PUMA) Array With 9:1 Bandwidth

A tightly coupled, low profile, ultra-wideband, wide scan angle, dual-linear polarized phased array antenna array with 9:1 (2-18GHz) bandwidth is proposed in this paper. The array antenna unit is based on the structure of Planar Ultra-wideband Modular Antenna (PUMA), which is easy to fabricate and can be modularized. The size of the antenna unit is 7mm × 7mm × 7.4mm. Simulation results of an infinite array show that the dual-linear polarized PUMA operates from 2 to 18 GHz (9:1 bandwidth) with Active VSWR < 3 at E-, H-, and D-planes when scanning down to 60°, 45° and 75°, respectively. The Active VSWR is less than 3.9 when scanning to 60° in the H-plane.
