Based on the theory of traveling wave positioning in distribution network, this paper designs and develops a fault traveling wave positioning system for distribution network. Combined with the self-developed tunnel magnetic to resistance traveling wave sensor, the typical design of fault traveling wave acquisition in distribution network is designed and tested in the real distribution network laboratory, which can effectively detect traveling wave signals. Furthermore, the artificial short circuit experiment is carried out in the demonstration project 10kV distribution network. The test results show that the positioning error is less than 150m. The traveling wave positioning system based on non-contact sensor has the conditions for popularization and application in engineering.
