Shrinking budgets and increasing operational demands operate as a crunch on US fleet readiness and are expected to be more the norm than the exception. To respond to such a challenge, the old approach of design, production and in-life sustainment being three separate entities will not work. The three aspects should be approached as an integrated problem that requires efforts to arrive at a single viable solution. This paper addresses a Fincantieri developed simulation tool and its application to the US Navy and other military markets for construction, modernization, repair and the overall integration of maintenance data into the modernization and build of follow on ships.
