Mechanism of temperature-dependent antifungal activity of AmBisome against Saccharomyces cerevisiae was investigated. AmBisome was observed to localize to the cell surface, and the transfer of liposomal amphotericin B (AMPH-B) to the cells was dependent on the incubation temperature and the affinity for cell membrane ergosterol. These results suggested that AmBisome showed the temperature-dependent antifungal activity by transferring the liposomal AMPH-B to the fungal cells on the cell surface in a temperature-dependent manner.
