We started COURSE50 project (CO_2 UltimateReduction in Steelmaking Process by InnovativeTechnology for Cool Earth 50) in Japan from 2008.How "CO_2 exhaust reduction technology from the blastfurnace" and "CO_2 separation collection technologyfrom blast furnace gas (BFG)" contribute to about30%CO_2 reduction is clarified, the correspondencewith the development goal for each elementaltechnology (milestone) is taken, and the whole isadjusted.Smooth management is clarified at current year, andthe problem of both each problem of the grasp of awhole feeling is extracted, and the directionality isclarified. To contribute to the establishment of thetechnology that finally enables the CO_2 reduction inabout 30% compared with a current all exhaust level inthe ironworks, an efficient system is constructed whileplanning and managing the whole.Main theme of this project is below(1) Development of technologies to reduce CO_2emissions from blast furnaceDevelop technologies to control reactions forreducing iron ore with reducing agents such ashydrogen with a view to decreasing coke consumptionin blast furnaces.Develop technologies to reform coke oven gasaiming at amplifying its hydrogen content by utilizingunused waste heat with the temperature of 800 °Cgenerated at coke ovens.Develop technologies to produce high-strength &high reactivity coke for reduction with hydrogen.(2) Development of technologies to capture - separateand recover - CO_2 from blast furnace gas (BFG)Develop techniques for chemical absorption andphysical adsorption to capture - separate and recover -CO_2 from blast furnace gas (BFG).Develop technologies contributing to reduction inenergy for capture - separation and recovery - of CO_2through enhanced utilization of unused waste heatfrom steel plants.All recent topics in this COURSE50 project will bepresented.
