Mercury-wetted switches are very reliable due to their liquid contact. However the requirement for a mercury reservoir imposes a vertical position for their operation. The entirely new design described in this document manages to do away with this mobile reservoir of free mercury by ensuring permanent recycling of the mercury thrown, off the contacts during switching.
