When a connector is actuated under electric load the contact layer may be damaged by electric erosion, reducing the reliability of the connection. The conclusion from this investigations is that, under certain conditions, actuation of connectors under electric load is also possible in equipment with high reliability requirements. For a resistive load the contact erosion is negligible small if the voltage to be switched is ≤12V and the current ≤0.3A. When capacitive circuits are charged or discharged via connectors, it is often necessary to limit the current by a serious resistor. In inductive circuits contact erosion also may be extremely low, but in this case the special application must be investigated in detail.
