The present work studies the dissolution of chalcopyrite concentrate composed mainly bychalcopyrite (65 %) and pyrite (2 5%) using a pre-treatment before leaching as well as leaching withdifferent chloride concentrations.For the pretreatment, the given resting time (3, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days) at room temperature wasevaluated. For all tests, an equivalent concentration of 20 kg of H2SO4 concentrate, 65 kg of seawaterand a concentration of 90 kg of chloride per ton of ore for a 50 grams sample was used. The pretreatmentwas carried out at room temperature where every 3 days a quantity of 3 grams of distilledwater was supplied, in order to keep the mineral always moist so that the reaction could take place.Once the pre-treatment has completed the rest time (3, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days), the pre-treated mineralis transferred to 2 L reactors to carry out the leaching by agitation, thus evaluating the effect of this.A maximum of 70 % copper dissolution was obtained when the ore was treated with 28 days of reposetime. Without any ore pretreatment, 45 % copper dissolution was achieved. These tests indicate thatpretreatment has a positive effect on copper dissolution from chalcopyrite concentrate in an acidchloridemedium.
